The patient became septic and suffered several organ failures, including her kidneys, which failed to recover. She was forced to adapt her lifestyle around hemodialysis then the peritoneal dialysate. Her return home was finally made after 80 days of hospitalization, from the point where she was close to death, and began the lengthy road to healthy. Life was forever changed. Angelica was, following a full half-year of dialysis, and one year half year of treatment, was ready for the most significant operation ever - a kidney replacement. Angelica's mother was the only person who was able to donate the kidney. Angelica Hale and her mother underwent a kidney transplantation at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta as well as Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Egleston on September 13 2013.
