Amanda Bossard was just out of high school when she started her studies in marine biology at Alaska PacificUniversity in Anchorage. Bossard started her commercial fishing career in 1999 when she was hired on board the ship F/V Sunset. The 65' schooner that was converted into a salmon tender was owned by Murat Aritan. The fisherman has been in commercial fisherman since 1993. Bossard married Aritan in 1999, and the couple have teamed up in fighting for their company. They are supporters of conservative and profitable renewable seafood resource management. Otolith is an independent wholesale distributor of seafood founded in Philadelphia in 2007 by a now-mother of two kids, Bella aged 3 and Andre aged 1. The name Otolith is a loving memory of Bossard's deep knowledge about fish biology and her husband's vast connections to the seafood business. They are often separated for 5 months each time they strive to achieve objectives in the areas of environmental and financial that reflect their commitment and autonomy wherever they are. Bossard and her son Andre and Isabella, her daughter Isabella will return back to Southeast Alaska every summer as deckhands during the wild salmon harvest. A small 42-salmon troller using hooks and lines to capture their salmon, they work with Aritan for two months of selling to local processors. They also continue to grow their direct market seafood items sold via Otolith Sustainable Seafood by way of purchasing the custom processing services of small processors who create distinctive wild seafood products that reflect their passion for quality as well as the environment.
